"The First Five Minutes" of "Cloverfield"!

I have to admit, I've been pretty excited for this movie for quite some time. For one, it's got our good friend JJ Abrams associated with it - which gives it the potential for Lost / Alias Season 1-3 Greatness. For another thing, for the longest time, it was simply an untitled movie - just referred to as 01-18-08, which is the release date (in my opinion, it would have been infinitely cooler to just release it without a title - how ballsy would that have been?!)

Sure, there's a chance that it ends up being Godzilla meets Blair Witch, and is just another lame movie about NYC getting destroyed (how about we pick on another city once in a while? Topeka, Kansas - you're next!) - but you can't deny the overall atmosphere that is created by the various clips that have leaked out through the previews. It's not like a movie - it's like you're living through the experience. With each additional clip I see, I find myself sitting on the edge of my seat, and ending feeling kinda weird - like I was somehow affected by it.

At any rate, I digress. Something that they call "the first five minutes" of the movie are now out on the Internet - which is pretty misleading because it's more like "a five minute montage of portions of the first twenty minutes of the movie" - but whatever. It will give you an idea of how awesome this movie just might be.

Enjoy!

I was originally pretty stoked on this movie. JJ Abrams + mystery monster = great. However, looking at this clip, I am a little worried. Don't get me wrong, I think that the premise is great and I really want to know what is going on. I just don't think I'll be able to sit through 1 1/2 to 2 hours of that shaky camera. Usually this is not a selling point (I watch the Shield for Christ's sake), but was getting a headache watching that clip. I just don't know ...

Hmmm...I kinda agree with the first comment. Interesting *idea* to have a whole film shot (or looking like it's shot) by a cheap, hand-held, POV camera, but 90 or so minutes?? I've never seen Blair Witch, so I don't know if it's the same throughout...and of course I don't know if Cloverfield is the same throughout.

BTW, I disagree with Brian--I suspect this really *is* the beginning of the movie, intact. Talk about starting with a bang!

I just saw Spider-Man 3 over the weekend. How much did the SandMan look like Smokey when he was flying through the city?

I can't believe how good these Missing Pieces are getting. The first two were lame, and I thought that they were going to be something that would drive Lost fans crazy rather than entertain us. But the recent ones have been almost as satisfying as the show itself. What is the deal with Walt?
