It Starts...

You know, I've been doing my best to NOT think about Lost over the summer... because I know that once it starts, it's not going to stop. With Season Six, the FINAL SEASON OF LOST, not starting until January 2010, to start pondering the great mysteries of Lost, to theorize how it will conclude, and debate the fate of each character now seems like a terrible, terrible idea. Who would want to torture themselves by thinking about it now, knowing that they are going to have to sit and wait for six long months before getting any answers?

Apparently this guy.

Blame it on Comic-Con, which once again this year piqued my interest and shook me out of my Lost-free summer slumber. Leave it to Damon and Carlton to reveal next to nothing (at least on the surface), but to get my brain working, trying to figure out how in the hell these two guys are going to wrap up this massive storyline over the course of one final season.

For those of you who didn't attend this year's Comic-Con (read: anyone who has ever touched a boob), here are the videos from the panel. Let's start with these, then get the discussion going. I really don't have any good ideas yet - but I'm working on it... and you should too. For now, enjoy these videos and check back later to help me brainstorm about next season.

It starts...

I almost googled videos after seeing comic con was going on but knew you would post something. "you make us feel with our eyes & our heads" lol but not inaccurate. I just happened to log on & saw your post. alsdjflakfjd for 6 months left. :(

I'm really curious how they're going to work this out.

It seems they're well aware that having Juliet restart everything as if it never happened is quite a cheat and everyone would hate to see that, yet they're repeatedly saying you'll see characters like Faraday in the show.

If that's the case it better be via flashbacks, because I'd be very upset if they somehow restart everything.

the most interesting aspect of anticipation is the "how" even more than the "what". in other words, how they'll tell the story, from this point forward even more interesting than what the actual story may be.

anyway, one newsworthy tidbit shown here is that Richard Albert's backstory will be revealed!

What this will all come down to is Desmond pushing that button one more time. He is the only person who can change the future (or so it seems)and we know his business on the island is not complete. If he had pushed the button one more time then none of this would've happened because 815 never would've crashed. It's all on Desmond.

(on a side note, if Jacob and/or Smokey are aliens OR if there is a space ship under the island which is what gives off the "powers" of time travel and what not I will be really annoyed. I can just see that happening).

Jon, what, in the five seasons of Lost gives you reason to believe that it is all based on aliens under the island? That is an idiotic and asinine statement.

Sean is entirely correct -- what show have you been watching?

Yeah . . . because Hollywood (especially Sci Fi Hollywood - see Battlestar Gallatica and Life on Mars . . .) has never don't something completely shocking in the last season of a show . . .something no one could possible see coming . . . something based on nothing that the viewer has seen before . . .

I 100% believe that Desmond's role in the final season will be pushing the button in the Hatch one additional time that will allow 815 to fly over the island so that none of the events will have ever taken place. I think that is the key to the show.

As for a space ship under the island . . . I based that on nothing and I don't fully believe it. I do believe that the Lost writers have 1 final curve ball that we, the viewers, couldn't possibly see coming. We don't know where the "unique magnetic properties" of the island come from . . . who Jacob and Smokey are . . . etc. Perhaps it is a Donnie Darko scenario (matter cannot be created or destroyed . . . theory ). Who knows.

Whatever "it" is I bet it is going to be something new. Something introduced during the final season that has nothing to do with anything we know about Lost. Watch.

Great panel talk! They said almost nothing but in a very entertaining way.

I took them as saying that time travel will not be THE main story arc for the final season in the way it was this season. But that still leaves room for some time travel ramifications. Things that have already been set in motion will be followed up I would think. For example, who shot at our survivor's canoe during the time skipping phase? I think Faraday will re-appear in all that.

I'm really hyped about two specific things re the final season: how Alpert's story will unfold and what Ben's role will be from now on. Ben has steadily grown into such a central character that it would feel weird if him killing Jacob was the end of the line for him so to speak. And Michael Emerson is such a great actor that I'd hate to see him backgrounded. I'm really, really worried that Emerson will get into great post-lost trouble though. If things go bad I can see him popping up as the generic spooky bad guy on TV/in movies. Here's hoping that so will not be the case and that he moves onto some very different (but similarly excellent) acting.

But I'm getting ahead of things. We have a whole season of Lost to fuss about first! And a long wait for it to endure. I hope for some scattered LAGF posts during fall to build up the thrill for next spring.

I strongly doubt that LOST will be about "resetting time" by virture of this explosion. The clues given in the mock TV commercials at Comic Con are too obvious and C&L pleading for audience trust makes me believe they won't resort to a cheap story arc knowing it would make their diehard viewers feel cheated and violated.

Nice article by Adam Quigley on Alwayswatching regarding his theory for season 6...

i thought this last year, and now with the revelation about more RA, I think a cool final episode of Lost would be RA's backstory intertwined with the conclusions of all the storylines of our favorite castaways. But, RA's backstory could also be a good opening episode too, to set up the final season.

I really doubt that the last-episode will be centered around one character, especially a character like Richard Alpert, who is really a secondary character in the show.

It seems like they're toying with the "restart" theory. But at the same time I get the feeling that they're not going all the way... I don't know, but after watching an hour's worth of comic con videos, plus the two "commercials" and the promo--well I'm as frustrated as I was back at the start of season one. That's either a sign of a great show of a horrible one ;)

I just hope to God they don't pull a "life on mars". That show dissapointed me horribly.

That theory really is awesome. Thanks for posting Calhoon . . .

We still don't know who/what Jacob and Smokey are (where they come from . . .) . . . what is going on in Ann Arbor . . . what is the source of the "power" of the island . . . where the donkey wheel came from . . . If "Lost" is a metaphor for society (IE we are Lost as a civilization) based on Smokey (or whatever) telling Jacob "this always ends in fighting . . . " or whatever he said in the season finale last year that was similar (in other words this "experiment" of human beings and the decisions made on the island has happened before many times). And what exactly are the characters on the show fighting for . . . ? To show we, as a society, can make the morally correct decisions without being corrupted by power? What happens if Jacob loses this "experiment" this time? It is, afterall, apparently the only time Smokey (or whatever) succeeded in killing him . . .

I'll tell you one thing, I really hope that the bomb re-set time and Locke is alive again in an alternate reality. If not, then Locke's story is one of the great tragedies in television history. As far as we know, he died for the island and was simply a nobody.
