Lost - Moment 9

Pretty strange Lost Moment this week...

Upon first viewing, you think "Whoa - what are Charlie and Hurley up to? Something dangerous where they could be killed? What does Hurley mean by "If you don't die, then we win"? Have they found some way go get off the Island?!"

And then logic sets in. Listen to the tone of Hurley's talking. It's weird, as if he's doing an impersonation of someone who is giving a serious speech, when in reality they're probably talking about something trivial.

So what could it be? Well, based on the other Lost Moments, and the centricity of the episodes coming up, I'd be willing to bet this has something to do with Desmond and his powers. Perhaps they are planning a trip to the Imploded Swan Hatch to see what remains? Perhaps the "winning" they are talking about is "beating" Desmond by actually finding out what happened to him, since he won't tell them himself.

That's my best guess anyways. Comment away!

I think we are missing some information in between when Hurley helps Charlie up and when he makes the comments about "Yeah you might die", etc. When he first is helping Charlie up he says he has a plan that will help them both and then it sounds like Charlie knows about the plan. So I think the editors cut out the dialogue about the plan. I also am having a hard time with the "winning" refering to Desmond that sounds like it would refer to somehow winning over the Others and would also make sense with the reference to dying.

I don't know but it sure will be great to see what all this means.

I think "If you don't die, then we win" has something to do with Desmonds future seeing abilities. Perhaps he saw charlie die in a vision and saving him proves that the future can be changed.

Desmond probably told Charlie that he would die if he went somewhere/did something. I'd say that Hurley's pushing Charlie to the challenge in order to test Desmond's theory. That seems non sensical in light of the previous lost moments: Wasn't Hurley who said that Desmond could see the future? It was. Why does Hurley question his ability now?

sinkingdeeper - I did read that this weekend, and personally think it's a GREAT idea. The number one complaint you hear from people about Lost is "it's going nowhere", and if they knew that there were a fixed number of episodes left, you would almost have a guarantee that it's going to go somewhere.

It's better to finish strong than limp on longer than you should (see: Buffy Seasons 6 and 7), and I want Lost to finish strong!

I have never seen anything as bad ass as Jack Bauer's latest escape technique. The whole time I was wondering how it would happen, and I was still surprised and blown away. Bravo Jack, bravo.

Just my opinion here...
LOST has never been easy to understand in a 'moment' so why try now? I am thinking so many possibilities for Hurley's smile at the end that I just give up. This is just a moment to keep us interested until the 7th but keep us coming back after the 7th incase the MOMENT we are waiting for didn't appear. I think you might get a little too analytical on this one.

Like I said, just my opinion...we just don't have enough info to speculate!

Brian,
I have heard something about a character on the show and I want your opinion...how do I get it without violating your spoiler code of conduct?

24 is more badass than LOST this season...Jack Bauer would be off that island in less than 24 hours.

heather's brain - You can post your potential spoiler question on my test site - http://test-and-gone-forever.blogspot.com/

anonymous - Well that's a given. If Jack Bauer was captured by the Others, he would maul them to escape. It's so good to have 24 back, I'm not going to lie.

The producers of LOST are exceptionally smart guys both creatively and business wise. They evidently have learned, from shows of similar models, how to best leverage their success and the idea of broadcasting an "end date" now is brilliant and will likely make for more compelling watching as well as help to prevent further erosion of their fan base as the show progresses.

"If you don't die, then we win." Wha???
That statement is odd. Win what?
Have we ever heard any language about winning anything - that infers a competition. It must be that he made a bet with someone. But that sounds dumb too.
Sigh. I don't see a Desmond connection.... I tend to agree with you, mr. other, when you said about Hurley seeing Charlie die in a vision and saving him proving that the future is not set in stone but changeable. Interesting theory!
