2007 Lost... and Gone Forever Census Result Show!

Wow.

Once again, I was absolutely floored by the results of the 2007 Lost… and Gone Forever Census. I suppose since I was racking up like 1,000 hits a day, I should have assumed there were people from all over the place checking the Blog – but it still boggles my mind how an Email chain I sent to a few co-workers somehow ended up as some International Lost Hub.

Tallying up the votes (and if you didn’t post, you have no one to blame but yourself), it looks like two-thirds of all readers are American, which is to be expected. Here are some more fun facts:

34 of the 50 states were represented. Those states that don’t currently read the Blog (aka “Jerk States”)?

  • Connecticut
  • Georgia
  • Idaho
  • Kansas
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Mississippi
  • Nebraska
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • South Dakota
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Wyoming

If you have friends from one of these states, spread the word. Having all 50 states represented next year might be a good way to bridge together the ever-increasing gap between the “red” and “blue” states in America. I’m just here to make the country a happy place!

As for our International Friends, there were a whopping 22 countries spoken for, a lot of which I know don’t have English as their official language. So either people are visiting just to look at the pretty pictures… or this just further proves that non-Americans are really smart, and know multiple languages fluently. We should all be jealous.

The most popular countries?

  1. United Kingdom
  2. Germany
  3. Portugal

UK and Germany make sense, since I visited both regions in April, spreading Lost… and Gone Forever propaganda… but Portugal is quite a surprising entry. Good work Portugalians!

Lastly, for those who didn’t venture through to the Message Board or wade through the Comments section, Drudo made this sweet interactive map thingy, where you can see a dot representation of how Lost… and Gone Forever is spreading around the world like a plague:

http://lost.and.gone.for.a.while.googlepages.com/

Very cool.

Thanks to all that participated!

  1. doesn't blogger provide you with some kind of report about the origin of your visitors?. I assumed they would use google-analitics or something like that. Maybe you can use it yourself, I bet you will find really interesting data.

I read it and I've told several of my friends about it who read it too. I live in Shreveport, LA. I just didn't care enough to post in the census. Sorry.

I'm more than happy to talk about LOST though! I love your blog and we've got a group together to watch the rewinds and read your analysis.

I'm in WI and read the blog, but didn't do the survey. Take WI off the Loser List, please!

  4. I vote they continue to be Jerk States.

I will be moving back to the wonderful city of Cleveland, so I will try and spread the good word here in Nevada to make sure it doesn't go back to being a jerk state next year.

  5. Louisiana - you know what the worst part of not making the census is? I visited your state THREE separate times in 2006. What more do you want from me?

Hey mate, it's "Portuguese" not "Portugalians" lol

  7. I am from Centreville Virginia, I don't see Virginia in your list. I am a devoted reader, and only recently have comented. I replied to the census, maybe i didn't clarify that I was in Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC.

  9. Look it over again- because I know I did it! South Dakota is not a jerk state!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Anonymous7:19 PM

Well I can tell you why "South Dakota" is a jerk state....It doesn't exist! Thee IS NO South Dakota. It's a proven fact! Why won't people believe me?!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Alright I'm a idiot- I must have accidently left it on last years census. Whoops! I'm not the only one though- so you should check and see if you can cross off more 'jerk' states.

Still here in actual South Dakota. Yes we exist, we even have electricity!

  12. Hey, Sawyer's Optician--the list Brian made is of states **not** represented. I think there are quite a few of us Virginians out there. Maybe you need new glasses. =~>

I guess I count for both Bogota and Boston since I'm always between those too... but down in Colombia LOST has a huge fan base and everyone is anxious to see the fourth season air next year.

Cheers and keep spreading the lost love! :)

We are not "Portugalian" but Portuguese... we're you kidding or you didn't know? Just curious...

  16. People of Portugal,

Rest assured that I was merely trying to be funny when I called you Portugalians, a joking reference to the fact that I always struggle with knowing what to call people from different city / states / countries. Usually I try to make it the most awkward way possible to produce, thus the "Portugalians" comment.

No harm was meant in my joking comment.

The popularity of your blog certainly doesn't surprise me, Brian! You most definitely have one of the most interesting and comprehensive sites on the web (imho). My LOST experience definitely wouldn't be complete without your blog! I'm guilty of spreading the word about Lost and Gone Forever to different message boards I post to that have LOST threads. Great job & looking forward to reading your recaps throughout the summer and fall! Is it February yet? (J/K! I don't mind being patient through the summer, but it will be painful during the fall and early winter months waiting for new episodes.)

    brian, no prob'! ;)

And seriously, don't feel "dumb" for only knowing English, and don't be amaze about people from other non-English speaking countries knowing it. We live in a anglosaxonic-oriented, we're flooded with english music and films (more in countries, like mine - Portugal - where there are no dubs, only in animation and/or children movies, but still then there's always the subbed version in theaters as well.

Feel only bad for USA being a country very closed to exterior stuff. Now... that have pros... and cons... a lots of them. :P
(nothing against USA or USAnians :P)
So it's only natural... Now, people who know who to fluently speak/write 4, 5, .., different languages. Now that's nice!

    Cheers!

Heh heh heh.. oh these comments are making me laugh tonight... especially every time I read "Portugalian".... well a good part of that could have been the vodka... I guess..

I'm thrilled this blog is insidiously taking over the world... and good call out on listing the loser states, now they are coming out of the woodwork to be recognized for their Lostiness too.

I'm going with Renee's "From Shore to Shore in Season Four!" motto.

  22. Sarah, I talk with a broker in SD daily and I kid him about being a state with only one area code. He has informed me that soon they will have another one cause the state is growing!

Hey wait a minute! I'm from CT and I know at least 2 people who not only watch Lost but read our blog (thats how I found you) so CT should not be a jerk state.
Guess the 3 of us thought the other 2 would reply to the census.

Hi, I love your blog and have been spreading the word on Facebook & MySpace. I'm representing the state of WI so the next time you do a census add us on there (so we're no longer one of the "jerk states"). Thanks for all your insight on LOST.
